Lantern Notes

Four small lights, held near the verse

🌿 One foot in now, one in what will be.

Presence and vision are companions. Live this moment fully while allowing tomorrow to invite rather than demand.

🛠️ One hand to construct, one to surrender.

Create wholeheartedly, yet release attachment to outcomes. Build with intention; let life complete the conversation.

💪 One body to push, one mind to pull.

The body invites us into action, movement, and lived experience.

The mind invites us inward. When its pull is gentle, we may pause, take a conscious breath, and allow the space within to open. In that quietness, guidance often arises without force.

The mind does not always need to provide answers. Sometimes its greatest gift is creating enough space for wisdom to reveal itself.

Take a breath. Let the space it creates become your guidance.

❤️ One heart which connects.

The heart is the meeting place of experience. It does not choose between the present and the future, action and surrender, body and mind. It remembers that these are not opposites to be conquered, but companions to be welcomed.

Connection is not achieved by forcing unity. It is discovered by allowing each part to fulfil its purpose.

A note in the marginThe Temple keeps no position on which half is right. It has tried holding only one at a time and found the results uncomfortable and, on at least one occasion, quite loud.

“Take a breath. Let the space it creates become your guidance.”

A rose bush in full red bloom in a garden bed, surrounded by green leaves and weeds, with a small painted garden gnome standing quietly at the lower left and a stone rabbit half-hidden in the undergrowth.
Fig. 1 — the argument, still growing
Roots descending, petals ascending, thorns and blossom on the same stem. Nothing here has resolved its contradictions; it simply flowered anyway. The gnome has been standing in the middle of it for years and has never once been asked to choose a side.

A Contemplation

Harmony is not the absence of opposing movements.

A bow sings because of tension.
A bird flies because of opposing wings.
A tree grows because its roots descend as its branches ascend.

Tension

A bow sings because of tension.

Opposition

A bird flies because of opposing wings.

Direction

A tree grows because its roots descend as its branches ascend.

Perhaps balance is not found by eliminating polarity, but by allowing every part of our being to remember its place.

The heart does not erase the dance.

It joins it.

Filed without commentA club two doors down cancels its meetings for excessive freedom. This paper suggests the freedom and the meeting were never actually opposed. We have not passed that on. It would only start something.

Temple Contemplations are invitations rather than conclusions. Read slowly, pause often, and allow your own experience to complete the text.
