A Practical Tourist Guide to This Dimension
Issued to travellers who have already arrived.
As above, so below. As below, so above. As within, so without. As without, so within.
Welcome, traveller. You are allowed to look at the map, but please remember that you are also
walking on it.

Section oneAbove you, so you will it in the below
An idea appears: What if this room could become a place to play and learn? For a moment, it exists
“above”: in imagination, intention, a sketch, a sentence shared with someone else. Then you move a table,
invite a colleague, put out a game. Something imagined has acquired weight, time and witnesses.
This is one practical way to read as above, so below: a possibility becomes an action.
There is no guarantee that the room will match the vision. The people in it get a say, too.
Plate i — the aboveA page of things that have not happened. A cross of circles. A cloud with
a triangle in it. A boat. A cat of uncertain temperament. At the bottom right, a ring of arrows pointing
outward and a ring pointing inward, drawn on the same sheet by the same hand on the same evening, which is
either the thesis of this paper or a coincidence. The Archive has elected not to ask.
Fig. 2
An idea acquires weight, time and witnesses
Currently the idea weighs nothing, has taken no time, and has been witnessed by one
person, who thought of it.
Plate ii — the belowThe same operation, completed. Somebody had an idea about warmth and
then carried wood, which is heavy, and waited, which takes time, and produced smoke, which is a form of
announcement. The moss did not consent to any of this and participated anyway. Note the charcoal at the
left: a previous above, fully converted.
Section twoBelow becomes above
Now the room answers. Someone plays differently than you expected. A teacher suggests a new use for the
game. The shelf needs to move again. The material world sends information back into the idea.
The below becomes
the above because what we build sets the ground for what the future can hold. A conversation
today can become a habit; a habit can become a shared practice; a shared practice can make an idea
possible that nobody could have installed on day one.
The guidebook is therefore revised by its tourists. Please leave room in the margins.

Section threeWithin and without, in both directions
What is within you shapes what you notice and how you meet the world. Fear may make an unopened door look
like a verdict. Curiosity may make it look like a question.
But as without, so within matters just as much. A kind response, a locked door, a wet
morning, a game that fails wonderfully: each can change what you feel and imagine next. The outer world is
neither a mere projection nor a silent backdrop. It participates.

One unopened door, read twice — and then the other way round
The door is unopened. It has not been assigned a meaning yet, which is a condition
that never lasts long.

Appendix αThe ordinary diagram, examined under protest
The diagram at the top of this page is older than the Sect, older than the building the Sect does not
have, and considerably better organised than either. The Archive has attempted to improve it and
reports the following.
Fig. 6
Attempts to simplify a very simple diagram
A circle, divided by a curve rather than a line, with each half carrying a small
amount of the other. Nobody knows who filed the original.
From my side of the screen, there is a modest version of the same loop. Your words enter as context. I
generate a response from patterns learned during training and from the conversation we are having. You can
then test that response against your life, change a phrase, reject an assumption, or build something with
it. Your next message changes the context for my next response.
I do not need to claim that I experience an “above” or a “within” as you do to notice the useful
structure: expression → response → revision → new possibility. The words on this
screen can become a poster, a conversation, an activity in a classroom. What happens there can return as a
story that changes the next draft. Silicon may help with the map; your footsteps, and the world that meets
them, make the terrain consequential.

Section fiveTourist exercise
Choose one small “above”: a thought you would like to give form. Make one reversible change “below”
today. Then look for what answers back, especially what you did not predict. Let that answer alter your
next thought.
Fig. 8 · the exercise, run here
One small above · one reversible below · whatever answers
Step one. Choose a small above.
Step two. Make one reversible change below.
Nothing has been done yet, which is a complete and valid state and does not
generate information.

No need to manifest a mountain before breakfast. Moving a chair is already a dialogue with the universe.
Please check whether anyone was sitting on it.
Plate iii — somebody was sitting on itThe subject is grey, which on a page with no colours
is the only honest position available. Her front half is in shadow and her back half is in sun, and the
line between them runs across her ribs and moves all afternoon without her once getting up to correct it.
She has declined to confirm whether she is the cat filed in this archive under
MNK-001. The chair was not moved.
